Unconditionality
For Jessica, Unconditionality begins with appreciating people exactly as they are in this moment, not as who they might become or who she'd prefer them to be. She looks for the qualities that connect us rather than the faults that divide us.
Whether she's collaborating with colleagues across the globe or building friendships with people from very different walks of life, she naturally seeks common ground. Rather than dwelling on what makes people different, she's curious about the experiences that shaped them, and she's found that those perspectives are what make relationships rich.
Jessica traces this back to her childhood. Her mother cared for foster children from many backgrounds, some of whom had disabilities. Growing up alongside them taught Jessica to see past outward differences and appreciate each person's story. Those early years still shape how she approaches people today: with curiosity, compassion, and openness.
That mindset shows in the relationships she builds. Friends often remark on how varied her circle is, an observation that makes her laugh, because to her it's simple: she just enjoys people. Rather than expecting everyone to think alike or contribute in the same way, she values what each person uniquely brings. Friendships deepen, she believes, when we stop trying to make people fit our expectations and start valuing them as they already are.
Jessica hopes her Unconditionality helps others feel seen. She wants people to know they don't have to perform or pretend to earn her acceptance. When people feel safe being themselves, honest conversations and deeper relationships follow naturally.
Over time, she has also learned that Unconditionality is not the absence of boundaries. Accepting people as they are doesn't mean accepting every behavior or letting others take advantage of your kindness. Compassion and healthy boundaries can coexist: you can honor another person's humanity while also respecting yourself.
Her advice is simple. Spend time with people who are different from you. Ask questions. Listen with genuine curiosity. Seek to understand before you judge. The more you know someone's story, the easier it becomes to appreciate who they are today.
"Accept people for where they are today, and walk with them through their evolution instead of asking them to be someone different."
