This Week with Introspective

The definition of Personal Responsibility from the Skills Discovery:

  • You are always true to your word, knowing that if you make a promise, then you are sure to keep it.

  • You never blame others, but take ownership of everything that you do.

  • You are seen as someone who is always prepared to do what you have committed to do.

Questions to help you bring this strength to life:

  • When did following through on a commitment strengthen someone's trust in you?

  • Where in your life are you taking on more than you can truly commit to?

  • Who in your life trusts you most, and what did it take to earn that?

Strength Story: Colleen

The Strength of Personal Responsibility

Colleen's Personal Responsibility strength is rooted in one simple belief: her word matters. As an educator, she spent time earning her colleagues' trust before ever proposing new ideas, and when she did, they listened. The result was a morning arrival program pairing preschoolers with middle school mentors that has since been adopted schoolwide. For Colleen, following through on commitments isn't about recognition — it's about authenticity.

Her advice: don't try to take responsibility for everything, just choose commitments that reflect your values, and follow through on every one.
