Explainer

Question: How can I use my knowledge and expertise to simplify a complex topic?

My Story:

John has spent a significant amount of his career in nonprofit fundraising. His ability to take complicated or detailed information and simplify it is something he enjoys and excels at. Throughout John’s career in nonprofit fundraising, Explainer has been his superpower. He’s often faced with incredibly complex organizations with dozens of moving parts. Donors want to know one thing: What impact will my gift have? He can translate those complexities into a simple, compelling story that inspires donors to give. Aligning their goals with the nonprofit’s mission isn’t easy, but he can see the connections clearly, and then explain them in a way that sparks action.

Some of his proudest moments have been after closing a major gift, knowing his explanation unlocked someone’s passion and connected it to meaningful impact. For him, it’s energizing to take something dense and overwhelming and make it crystal clear. That’s Explainer.

While the strength of Explainer has always been a tool that John has relied on, it has become especially important now that he’s considering a career pivot. Exploring a significant change is both exciting and daunting. He knows that what’s on paper doesn’t tell the whole story of what he has to offer.. His resume may look unsuitable for the prospective new role, but with the Explainer strength, he knows he can connect the dots and articulate exactly how his skills, experience, and passions align with a new opportunity. Since this is a skill probably not held as well by his “competitors,” he feels confident that he can set himself apart from others who are interviewing for the same job.

Whether he chooses to step into nonprofit fundraising again or even launch his own business, Explainer is the strength that makes it possible. If he’s sitting across from an interviewer, he can explain why he’s the right candidate even if he doesn’t check every box. If he’s talking to investors, he can frame his story in a way that convinces them of his credibility and vision. Utilizing the Explainer strength opens up a multitude of opportunities and success.

Now, as he considers his next move, Explainer is once again at the center of John’s strategy. In interviews, he knows it’s not just about the resume. It’s about who he is, what excites him, and how he can frame his diverse background as an asset. Explainer allows him to tell his story in a way that makes sense, not just to himself, but to anyone John is speaking with.

At its core, Explainer is about clarity. And for John, it’s the bridge between where he’s been and where he wants to go.

“Explaining is about turning complexity into clarity, whether it’s connecting donors to a cause, or connecting my own diverse experiences to a new opportunity.”
