Strategic Awareness

Rosemarie's Strategic Awareness helps her step back from what's immediately in front of her and consider the bigger picture. She pays attention to what's changing around her, considers what those changes might mean, and uses what she learns to help determine where she wants to go next.

That perspective has shaped her career. Trained as a psychologist, Rosemarie became interested in the growing field of Positive Psychology and the emerging research into what helps people thrive and perform at their best. Through her reading and coaching conferences at Harvard, she began thinking about how to apply those ideas in the workplace. Her Strategic Awareness helped her recognize the possibilities in this evolving field and ultimately led her from psychology into coaching, with a focus on leaders and the influence they can have on people and organizational culture.

Today, Rosemarie uses Strategic Awareness when evaluating clients and opportunities. She considers whether someone is truly open to coaching, whether the two of them are a good fit, and whether her particular strengths and experience are what that person needs. Sometimes that thinking helps her recognize an opportunity worth pursuing; other times, it helps her see that someone else may be a better fit.

She applies a similar approach to decisions in her own life. Rosemarie doesn't expect herself to be an expert in every subject. Instead, she identifies what she already knows about her needs and priorities, asks questions, and seeks out the information or expertise she needs. She also draws confidence from her past experience and the skills that have helped her navigate other important decisions.

Her advice for developing Strategic Awareness is to stay curious about the bigger picture. Ask questions, seek out information, and reflect on what your experience has taught you. Taking the time to understand what's happening around you can help you see possibilities and find a path forward.

“Trust your strengths, trust your skills, trust your thinking, and use that to guide you.”

- Rosemarie
